bullet.gif (139 bytes)Compost bins - Hart District Council offered residents compost bins for use in their gardens. This keeps lots of waste out of the waste stream, and is great for the garden!  Over 11,000 were issued; this offer is now closed.

bullet.gif (139 bytes) Kerbside collection of recyclables - in blue bins
Almost every household in Hart has a blue bin for the kerbside collection of recyclables scheme. Every suitable household has been provided with a blue bin which can be emptied weekly by a split vehicle, at the same time as the general refuse bin. The blue bin takes newspapers, magazines, cans and plastic bottles.

(NB: Glass cannot be taken in kerbside collections due to safety reasons, and contamination of other recyclables. Please take glass to your local bottle bank - see the list above.)

bullet.gif (139 bytes) Other groups involved in recycling

Opticians - Many opticians will accept old spectacles for reuse in developing countries.
Chemists - Many chemists and pharmacists will accept old medicine bottles and jars for reuse or recycling and will dispose of old medicines carefully.
Charity shops - Many charity shops will accept any old household goods, books, aluminium foil, clothing, stamps etc for reuse or recycling.
Nappy laundering services - Consider "real" nappies as an alternative to disposables. Contact the National Association of Nappy Services (NANS) on 0121 693 4949, "Cotton Bottoms" on 023 8086 7007, or "Nifty Nappies" on 01420 549659.
