bullet.gif (139 bytes)Compost bins
Eastleigh Borough Council has a very attractive home composting scheme. To date over 16,000 home compost bins have been issued to residents in the borough free of charge.

bullet.gif (139 bytes) Twin wheeled bins
Eastleigh operates a twin wheeled bin kerbside collection scheme;  a grey bin for rubbish and a green bin for mixed dry recyclables. All properties in the borough now receive this service, with a 27.9% recycling rate!

Residents receive a pair of 140 litre bins, one green and one grey.  Families of three or more can swap up to larger 240 litre bins.  The green recycling bin is for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and food and drinks cans.  The grey bin is for normal domestic waste.  This is a fortnightly collection; one week the green bin is collected, the following week the grey bin is collected and so on.
More information

bullet.gif (139 bytes) Eastleigh Borough Council also operates a special collection service for fridges and other bulky household goods - ring 023 8068 8323. There is a charge for this service.

If you have a query about refuse collection please telephone 023 8068 8323.

Opticians - Many opticians will gladly accept old spectacles for reuse in developing countries.

Chemists - Many chemists or pharmacists will accept old medicine bottles and jars for reuse or recycling and will dispose of old medicines carefully.
Charity shops - These collect a range of materials such as aluminium foil, old clothing, books, furniture, appliances, stamps etc to sell or reuse.
Nappy laundering services -
Consider "real" nappies as an alternative to disposables. Contact the National Association of Nappy Services (Nans) on 0121 693 4949, or Cotton Bottoms (who cover Surrey and parts of Hampshire) on 023 8086 7007.
