| Bigger and better HWRC to open at SegensworthResidents will soon be
able to take their bulky household and garden waste to a new purpose-built Household Waste
Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Segensworth, near Fareham.
Hampshire County Council is opening the facility at 8am on 16 February, replacing the former site at Hook Lane, Warsash, which closes on 15 February. This will be landscaped and returned to grassland. The new HWRC, in Barnes Wallis Road, will handle more than 10,000 tonnes of household waste each year, and is expected to have a recycling rate of over 60%. It is the first HWRC to open on a new site as part of the County Council's programme of relocating and expanding several of these important and well-used facilities. Its split-level design means that householders can drive up and place their waste directly into bins, without having to climb steps. This makes the site more accessible, efficient and safer to use, and easier for Hopkins Recycling to operate on behalf of the County Council. Items that can be recycled or reused include newspaper and cardboard, green garden waste, glass bottles and jars, bric-a-brac, textiles, books, plastic bottles and refrigerators. County Councillor Alex Varden, said: "The Segensworth HWRC will provide local residents with a much-improved facility to help the county meet the Government target of recycling 25% of Hampshire's household waste this year. We are well on the way to achieving that figure, thanks to the efforts of the County Council, its Project Integra partners and, of course, Hampshire's residents." Don't forget to look around the site to see if any items are useful to purchase; always check with staff before taking something away. 28 January 2000 |
