Artistic talent goes to waste

Gosport Borough Council in partnership with Ecovert, the
contractor responsible for Gosport Borough Council's 'Blue Bag' waste paper collection scheme, recently held a competition to design a logo. Schools around the Borough were invited to take part, with the winning design being used on the 'Blue Bag' collection vehicle.

"We have always found that young children are keen to help
when it comes to matters of the environment and recycling, and it is often through the youngsters that other family members become interested," said Councillor Peter Langdon, Chairman of Health & Leisure at Gosport Borough Council. "The competition called for youngsters to design a logo that can be used on the collection vehicle, to highlight the scheme and get more people interested in recycling. The more we recycle, the less we have to dispose of
in landfill sites which must help the environment."

Four winning designs were chosen by the Mayor of Gosport,
Councillor Aleck Hayward. First prize goes to Molly Cross aged 10 from Woodcot Primary School who wins a book token for herself and a prize for her school.

The prize giving ceremony was held at Woodcot School on
Wednesday 19 July. The Mayor presented winners with book tokens and Ian Reck, Contracts Manager from Ecovert presented Molly with a recycled bench for her school. Other winners are:-

* 2nd prize Joseph McGuire (aged 10)
* Joint 3rd Daniel Figgins and James Richards (both aged 10)

General Waste also attended, along with a refuse collection
vehicle for the children to look over. Entries for the competition will be displayed in the reception area of the Town Hall for public viewing during the first two weeks of August.
