| INTEGRA celebrates its first year on the World Wide WebProject Integra is Hampshire's partnership strategy for dealing with the rubbish in your dustbin, and its web site - http://www.integra.org.uk - was the first dedicated local authority waste management web site in the UK. Since its launch in October 1998, there have been over 50,000 visitors to the Integra web site. Most of these were from the UK, but some were from places as far afield as New Zealand, Thailand, South Africa and Estonia. The site is constantly being updated with the latest news and events, statistics and publications, and updates on Hampshire's "War on Waste" campaign which encourages everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle. This site has been designed to provide useful information about waste and recycling for students, local government officers, tradespeople and the interested Hampshire householder who wants to know where their nearest bottle bank is! If you're not "surfing" from home yet, you can access the Internet and World Wide Web at Hampshire's major libraries (for a small charge), or at any of the "cyber-cafes" that are appearing all over the county. The net is a great way to access all kinds of information without using loads of paper - so it's actually a good way to reduce waste! Because of Project Integra and the participation of its residents, Hampshire is currently on track to meet the Government's target to recycle 25% of household waste in the year 2000. 15 October 1999 For more information about Project Integra, please contact Angela Bethell in Hampshire County Council's Waste Management Section on 01962 847003. |
