Computer Autumn Amnesty II

Residents of Hampshire took enough computers to fill a ‘transit’ style van to the 'Autumn Amnesty' at PC World’s Hedge End Store last weekend, for reuse or recycling.

Dr Alan Whitehead MP, who supports the initiative, says, "This wonderful response from the public to deal with their old computers in an environmentally sound manner is very encouraging. I hope it will persuade others to have a clear out and bring their old computers next weekend when the event will be repeated."

PC World, in partnership with Intex, the Hampshire based computer recycling company, and supported by Project Integra, will hold another amnesty next weekend, 18/19 September. It is hoped that the initial success of this event can be built upon, and that the total number of computers brought to the amnesty will be in excess of 100.

This initiative is an excellent example of the public, businesses and local authorities being involved in a project to protect the environment by reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, and to preserve resources by reusing and recycling. Says Mr John Barlow of Bishops Waltham, who brought along his computer for recycling,

"Brilliant! Computers need recycling rather than scrapping. It’s even better if reuse routes can be found."
