Change of Opening Hours at Hayling Island HWRC

The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Hayling Island has been granted a further three years' extension to its temporary planning permission. This will give Hampshire County Council until the end of December 2001 to find a replacement site and provide a new purpose-built facility on the Island.

The opening hours at the existing centre in Fishery Lane will be reduced, as a condition to granting the planning extension.

Hampshire County Council will introduce the new hours, as follows:

Winter (1 October - 31 March)

Daily: 9.00am - 4.30pm

Closed: 25 & 26 December

Summer (1 April - 30 September)

Daily: 9.00am - 6.00pm

HWRCs accept a vast range of materials from householders. Last year more than 3,500 tonnes of waste were delivered to the Hayling Island site, 57% of which was recycled. Some reusable items can be bought from the site operator.

The centre also operates a free CFC removal service for all refrigerators and freezers that are delivered.
