| Energy from waste plans on display People on both sides of Southampton Water will have the chance to examine more closely the plans by Hampshire Waste Services for the proposed energy recovery incinerator to be built on the site of the old power station in Normandy Way, Marchwood Industrial Park. A mobile display unit will be out and about during July, showing outline details of the planning application and an artist's impression of the proposed development. The mobile unit will be on display in the Guildhall Square, Above Bar, Southampton on 19 July between 3pm and 7pm; in Jones Lane Car Park, Hythe on 20 July between 3pm and 7pm; in the Village Hall Car Park, Main Road, Marchwood on the 21 July between 3pm and 7pm; and on the 22 July between 10am and 1pm. Members of the Hampshire Waste Services Project team will be available to answer questions concerning the proposed development or aspects of Project Integra including composting, recycling, energy recovery and landfill. The plans have been lodged with Hampshire County Council and come under consideration by the Planning and Transportation committee in the winter. The proposed plant includes the capability to process over 165,000 tonnes of waste and generate sufficient electrical power for more than 14,000 homes. The innovative design comprising a 36 metre high hemispherical structure encompasses all the necessary equipment and traffic movements in and around the facility within its 110 metre diameter including the delivery and tipping of waste. "We hope the mobile display unit will be well attended by those interested in seeing the details of the scheme for themselves and learning more about Project Integra," said Hampshire Waste Services Project Director John Collis. Project Integra is the waste strategy collaboration between Hampshire County Council, the 11 district councils, the two unitary authorities of Southampton and Portsmouth, and Hampshire Waste Services, which has this year been awarded Beacon status by the government. Project Integra and Hampshire Waste Services aim to achieve a long term recycling target of 40% and, through doorstep collections of recyclable items and a network of 26 Household Waste Recycling Centres, the recycling level has already reached 22% in the county. 12 July 2000 For further information, or for literature, call the Hampshire Waste information help line on 01962 714874.
