| "Surfin'" the waste web in Hampshire Residents in the Hampshire, can now access information about recycling in their locality by "surfing" the new Project Integra website at http://www.integra.org.uk which is totally dedicated to waste management activities in Hampshire. The site has been developed with the user in mind and to this end it explains, in a user-friendly style, what can be recycled, how materials are recycled, and, what can be done with the rest of our waste. One of the key features of the web site is an interactive map of the county, which allows the visitor to "home in" on their area with a click of the mouse. Within a matter of seconds, they will be provided with an up to date list of recycling facilities in that area. Project Integra's web site Project Manager, Angela Bethell, commented "We needed to create a website to provide information to a wide audience, ranging from school children to waste managers throughout the world. To this end, we tried to assist the visitor with a site that is easy to navigate, visually appealing and by exploring issues to differing levels of complexity." Hampshire based web design agency Alchemy Interactive successfully tendered for the contract to design the site. Their Creative Director, Adrian Tennant says "Although we were provided with the textual information and graphics featured on the site, our remit was to bring this information to life. To that end we set about to create a number of interactive features, including the animation of General Waste, the mascot leading Hampshire's War on Waste." To enable the information to be as relevant as possible, visitors are encouraged to provide feedback via email any comments and suggestions they may have. In addition, the site links to other useful websites, including the local authorities in Hampshire and the highly acclaimed 'Hantsweb', to enable the visitor to explore there own area of interest more deeply. Those residents who do not have their own internet connection at home can either visit the site at one of Hampshire's libraries for a small charge, or link up through one of the growing number of cyber-cafes. 9 October 1998 For further information contact Angela Bethell at Hampshire County Council on 01962 847026. |
