April 2005 Project
Integra is an unparalleled example of strong co-operation between 14 local
authorities and is recognised internationally as such. The partnership has
placed Hampshire in the forefront UK recycling and has recently launched
the “Recycle for Hampshire “ campaign to persuade more people to
recycle regularly. In 2000 the partnership was awarded Beacon Status by the Government , and in the last 2 years alone, has succeeded in winning over £12m of direct Government funding through joint bids for the benefit of all Hampshire Local Authorities. Project
Integra has been a strong and active partner in the development of a
“Material Resources Strategy” for Hampshire. The Integra partners
committed to achieving the objectives set out in the recent stakeholder
document “More from Less” which explores how Hampshire will deal with
the mounting waste problem facing us over the next 15 years.
Project Integra will have a key role in making this happen. Cllr
Roland Dibbs, Chairman of the Project Integra Management Board, expressed
his hope that a way forward can be found to resolve the issues of concern
to the County Council. “The strength of Integra has been that all
Councils have the opportunity to influence
the way we deal with waste in the widest sense. We have been successful
because we have worked toward common goals in joined up way. Key decisions
are made over one table. What
one authority does has a knock on effect on the others and
we clearly need to work together. I am keen to resolve any
differences for the benefit of Project Integra and the residents of
Hampshire.”
