Recycling gets a makeover

Work has begun on a state-of-the-art recycling centre being built by Hampshire County Council for people in the Fareham area - so that residents can recycle even more!

The new facility at Barnes Wallis Road on the Segensworth East Industrial Estate is due to open in the autumn, when the existing temporary site at Hook Lane, Warsash, will close due to the expiry of its planning permission.

The new centre will provide a facility for people in Fareham to take their glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, metal, used engine oil, garden waste and rubble to be recycled - and do their bit to achieve the target of 25% of rubbish recycled in the county.

There are currently 26 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Hampshire, which collectively recycle almost 50% of all the waste delivered to them by Hampshire residents - some 80,000 tonnes - and the target is for 70% of materials to be recycled.  This can be achieved with new HWRCs like the one at Segensworth and the help of Hampshire residents.

The purpose-built HWRC at Segensworth will be branded with the War on Waste logo - a campaign run by Project Integra, the long-term integrated waste management strategy for Hampshire jointly run by the county, district and unitary authorities and a private waste contractor, Hampshire Waste Services.
