County's waste boss is engineer of the year

Hampshire’s waste manager Bob Lisney has won the Municipal Engineer of the Year award.

Bob, Head of Management Resources, Environment Group, for Hampshire County Council, received the award for his contribution to Project Integra.

Project Integra, directed by Bob, is the county’s integrated waste management strategy in partnership with the County Council, 11 district councils, two unitary authorities and private waste contractor, Hampshire Waste Services.

The Municipal Engineer of the Year award, made by ‘Surveyor’ magazine recognises contributions made by local authority engineering professionals to the local community.

Dr Peter Hughes, editor of ‘Surveyor’ presented Bob with a certificate and £400 cheque at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh on Thursday 29 June 2000.

Earlier this year Bob was awarded an OBE for his contribution to sustainable waste management. Bob is Chairman of the County Surveyors’ Society waste committee, and an advisor on waste management matters to the Local Government Association.

Hampshire has set itself an ambitious goal of recycling 40% of household waste, and is already approaching 25%. In recognition of its ambitious strategy, the Government has given Hampshire ‘beacon’ status in the field of waste management.

Bob, has worked for Hampshire County Council since 1975, and is a fellow of the Institute of Management Services, a member of the Institute of Personnel Development and a member of the Institute of Waste Management. He is married and lives in Chandlers Ford.

Councillor Dudley Keep, Chairman of the County Council’s Planning and Transportation committee, said: "I’m delighted to see one of our officers win this award. We congratulate Bob on his achievement, which is further recognition of his work on waste management and Project Integra, and Hampshire’s reputation for leading the field in sustainable waste management."
