LET’S TALK ABOUT WASTE!
Hampshire residents who are interested in the management of our waste will now be able to gain up-to-date information on the issue, with the launch of a new creative website aimed at greater communication with the public.
Hampshire Waste Services (HWS), part of Onyx Environmental Group, has introduced their new website, at www.hws.co.uk, in a bid to make its work more accessible to local people.
The website will carry data and information about the management of household waste in Hampshire covering the main aspects of the company’s operations.
The website will include a host of information from the highly successful green waste recycling scheme which produces the organic, peat-free soil conditioner Pro-Grow, to emissions data from its existing energy recovery facility at Basingstoke and the new facilities at Portsmouth and Marchwood as they come on line. It will also host explanations on material recovery and information about the local facilities.
In addition, Hampshire Waste Services has just opened a dedicated visitor route inside the Basingstoke plant.

Jo Garland, Onyx’s communications manager, explained: “The launch of both the website and the visitor route are all part of our communications policy. We need to provide our customers with the latest information and be as open as possible about our work.”
“We are very proud of our work in Hampshire. Project Integra, the county’s integrated waste management strategy, is the most progressive system in Britain, but we understand that waste can be a sensitive issue and that we need to keep the public informed of our activities.”
“We believe that the introduction of easy-to-access information on our website will enable people to find out all they need to know about our activities – and realise that we deal with the county’s waste in the most effective, sustainable and environmentally way possible.”
“We also want to invite local residents to look around inside the Basingstoke plant. Anybody aged 13 and over can come along, but they do have to book in advance, by contacting me on 01962 764000. We’d like as many people as possible to come and take advantage of the facility and have a real look at what we do.”
