Oxfam expands recycling collections in Hart district

Hart residents are being asked to help the Oxfam flood relief efforts in Mozambique by collecting old music CDs, cassettes, records, videos and books.

Most items collected are sold in Oxfam charity shops to raise funds for their development work with poor people around the world. Most recently they flew emergency equipment to flood stricken Mozambique and are continuing to help people who lost their homes during the floods. Just £9.77 could pay for 672 sterilising tablets helping to prevent the spread of diseases carried by dirty water.

Hart District council has six recently refurbished book banks located in the district for the collection of quality, undamaged books. They are located at Waitrose in Yateley, Church Road car park in Fleet, Hart Leisure Centre in Fleet, Hook car park and Basingstoke Canal Wharf in Odiham.

Note to editors: General Waste, the mascot leading the War on Waste, will be available for a photocall at Waitrose recycling site in Yateley on Monday 10 April 2000 at 10.30am with Hart Chairman, Mr john Stocks, Anthea Fielder from Oxfam and Richard Luck from Waitrose.

3 April 2000
