WORN IT?  RECYCLE IT ...
HAMPSHIRE SUPPORTS NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO RECYCLE CLOTHING AND SHOES

Project Integra, Hampshire’s waste management partnership supports the national campaign to persuade people to recycle clothes, shoes, and other textiles. For the launch of the campaign in London today, Tony Blair donated a tie, Mel C and Robbie Fowler donated tops and Alan Titchmarsh a ‘Groundforce’ T-shirt.

Look out for more information, during the next few months, about promotions throughout Hampshire, in support of this campaign.

In Hampshire alone, 6 million pairs of shoes a year are being thrown away every year, and these together with other clothing and textiles cost nearly £1 million to collect and bury in the ground.

Shoes are in great demand for repair and reuse by people here and in countries such as Africa, Eastern Europe and the Baltic states. Clothing (including underwear), sheets, blankets and other textiles can all be reused or recycled, by charities such as the Salvation Army, in response to humanitarian requests, or to generate income to help people in need.

There are hundreds of clothing banks throughout Hampshire – if you’re not sure where you nearest is, please contact your local district council Recycling Officer, or look at www.integra.org.uk/recycling, for a list of banks in your area.
