fight the War on Waste Children from Heatherside Infant School are fighting the War on Waste by reusing their household rubbish in school - to make desk tidies! General Waste, the mascot leading the War on Waste, and Hart District Councils Recycling Officer, Stuart Robbens, attended a school assembly to present prizes, certificates and goody bags for the best desk tidies. The 4 overall winners received hats and gloves made of 100% recycled plastic fizzy drinks bottles. Linda Miles, one of the Year 2 teachers, said, "The project is an ideal way to introduce children to the problems we create when we throw our rubbish away. The children are all keen blue bin recyclers at home and by learning how to reuse their rubbish to make these desk tidies they are learning a different set of three 'R's reduce, reuse and recycle." Any school interested in receiving an assembly or classroom presentation or even help with a school recycling project should contact Hart District Council on 01252 622122.
