| COUNTY COUNCIL WELCOMES DISMISSAL OF JUDICIAL REVIEW FOR
MARCHWOOD INCINERATOR Hampshire County Council has welcomed a High Court decision to dismiss an application for judicial review relating to planning permission for the Marchwood energy-from-waste plant. The judge said that the County Councils report to its members had been "admirably clear, comprehensive and balanced," and that claimant had "failed to get off the starting blocks with the facts." He added that the procedures followed by the County Council were totally proper and lawful. The claimant argued that the report misrepresented the position on the health effects of the proposal. County Planning Officer, Tim Greenwood, said: "We very much welcome this decision. Members have already given approval for the energy-from-waste plant which complies with all UK and European laws, and work on the project can start soon. "The County Council has been scrupulous in its handling of this application following a lengthy period of public consultation. I am pleased that a line can now be drawn under this episode, and that we can move forward to the next stage." ends Sarette Martin (01962) 847666 C130 (l) 15 June 2001 Note: Detailed enquiries about the incinerator should be directed to the applicant, Hampshire Waste Services, on 01962 764000. |
