Reducing and Reusing
General WasteAlthough we encourage everyone to recycle as much as possible, it is also important to reduce and reuse your waste as well. This is because it saves energy and natural resources, helps to reduce pollution and leaves less to throw away. Here are 10 ways in which you can help:
1. Donate unwanted clothing and small household items to charity shops and jumble sales.  Clean clothes, sheets, handbags, blankets, belts, towels, shoes (in pairs) and other household linen etc can be placed in clothing banks throughout the county.
2. Pack your lunch in a reusable box rather than foil or cling film.
3. Buy loose fruit and vegetables at the supermarket and loose screws and paint brushes at the DIY store.
4. Reuse old carrier bags, then use them as bin liners.
5. Compost your green waste by using a home compost bin, or take garden waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).
6. For picnics and barbecues avoid throw away crockery and cutlery; use washable plastic items instead.
7. Use refills for detergents, fabric conditioner, household cleaners and herbs and spices.
8. Use rechargeable batteries for toys, clocks and personal stereos where possible.
9. Use 'crates' to take home groceries or support 'bag for life' schemes.
10. Stop junk mail by contacting:
