Plastic Bottle Recycling
Every year, millions of plastic bottles are collected in banks and via kerbside collection schemes throughout Hampshire for recycling.
The plastic bottles are delivered to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where they are separated from other recyclable materials.
There are many different types of plastics, so the plastic bottles have to be sorted by hand into their various types:

PET bottles - fizzy drinks
HDPE bottles - milk, fabric conditioner
PVC bottles - squash, mineral water

They are then baled and sent for reprocessing.

The bottles are granulated and the flakes are washed clean. The flakes are dried before being made into new products, such as garden furniture, fleeces, pipes and coathangers.
